USA Grants INC A pledge to "end the blame game" has stopped the Queensland government fighting for its fair share of GST funds, Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg says.

Mr Springborg on Monday invited Premier Anna Bligh to join him in Canberra in a bipartisan effort to lobby the federal government for a better deal. USA Grant INC

USA Grants INC "What we have seen in the past with the commonwealth grants commission is that they've always had enough political pressure on them to take into consideration the unique position of Queensland as the most decentralised state," he told reporters in Brisbane. USA Grant INC

"We've always been able to maintain a significant advantage even though treasurers in NSW and Victoria from the Labor party have protested against it." USA Grants INC

USA Grants INC He said that the initial information he would like to see is a listing of grant programs, stated goals of those programs, total costs of each program, and where the funding comes from. USA Grants INC

Awbrey said that he often hears from teachers that certain grant-funded programs are not working as they should, and he wants it investigated. USA Grant INC

He said that the board, once it has the basic goal and cost information for programs, will have some work to do in determining how best to gauge effectiveness. USA Grants INC Awbrey said that portion of the process will have to involve agencies or groups outside the school system.

Mr Springborg said Ms Bligh had failed to stand up to the federal government on the issue. USA Grant INC

"The premier shouldn't be silenced on this just because she said there's got to be an end to the blame game," he said. USA Grants INC

Ms Bligh last month refused Mr Springborg's invitation for a bipartisan tour of indigenous communities. USA Grants INC

She has vowed to work with the grants commission in the lead-up to the 2010 review of methodology to ensure the state receives a fair share of GST in the future. USA Grants INC
